From Cairo to Constantinople
David Hunt (Staff 61-94) and Susie Hunt (Hon Member) attended an event at the Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace on February 6th at which 2 OHs, Dr Sophie Gordon (Aby & E 89.3), Curator of the Royal Photographic Collection, and John McCarthy, CBE (B 70.2) conversed together about the exhibition "Cairo to Constantinople: Early Photographs of the Middle East". The photographs were taken in 1862 by Francis Bedford, who accompanied the then Prince of Wales on a tour which lasted some months, and are a brilliant record, given that photography was still in its infancy. It was only when the picture below was taken that Sophie and John discovered that they are both OHs!
