Scales seals Premier League Deal...

Q: “So Son, what do you want to do for a living?”

A: “I want to be a Premier League footballer Dad!”

Q: “OK, but what are you really going to do with the rest of your life?....”  Is a familiar conversation that many with a son will have or have had.

Well for Christian Scales, that conversation has become a reality as he signed his first professional contract with Premier League side Crystal Palace in May 2015.

Christian was a student at Haileybury from Sept 2008 to July 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed his time here. Christian excelled at most sports, representing the school first teams at cricket, rugby, hockey and athletics. In 2011 he went to the English Schools Nationals in Gateshead and ran 400m.

Although he has achieved a great deal in the years since leaving Haileybury, Christian summed it up well when he said recently,  "Haileybury gave me a fantastic start in life , both academically and socially. It gave me many opportunities to express my skills and to develop.  In football terms, now is when the hard work really begins but my time at Haileybury has equipped me very well for the challenges that lay ahead !!!!" read more>

Football is Christian’s passion and whilst playing local football for Bengeo Tigers (2002 to April 2010) he was chosen to play for the Independent Schools Football Association National Team on several occasions over a three year period between 2010 to 2013.

In March 2010 Norwich City spotted Christian playing for a Hatfield University development team and asked him to go to trials. Christian joined the Norwich City academy in the Under 14s team in 2010 and subsequently was offered a 2 year full scholarship to play full time age 16 in March 2013.

During his scholarship, Crystal Palace from the Premier League  enquired about Christian and he went on trial there in Sept 2014 , and transferred to them from Norwich in December last year.

Christian played the remainder of this current season for the Crystal Palace U18's until a few weeks ago when he was asked to play the last few remaining games of the season in the U21 team.

At the end of this period , Crystal Palace offered Christian a full professional contract and Christian will start life as a full time professional footballer for the coming season 2015/2016.
