Jamie George (LS & BF 02)

JAMIE George will be aiming to maintain the strong impression he has made when England host Ireland in the Six Nations Championship on Saturday February 27 writes David Rimmer.

The 25-year-old Saracens hooker and Old Haileyburian is likely to be on the bench again. However George has continued to show his worth when he came on as a substitute in the 15-9 win over Scotland and 40-9 victory over Italy. He helped set up Owen Farrell for a try against Italy with a superb-timed pass and was in the thick of the action.

At the moment the Old Haileyburian is playing second fiddle to captain and Northampton Saints player Dylan Hartley but the former has improved this season. Hartley was excluded from the Rugby World Cup for disciplinary reasons and George was the number three hooker in the squad. However the Saracens player has leap-frogged Leicester Tigers Tom Youngs and Bath’s Rob Webber who were the two senior hookers in England’s World Cup squad.

With England’s new coach Eddie Jones stressing that it is a 23-man team (starting side plus eight substitutes) for any match all players are treated seriously. George is sure to continue getting playing time for England.
